A Fredericksburg resident since 1996, Blake Bethem grew up in nearby Dale City. After a tour in the Marine Corps, Blake earned his Culinary Arts degree from Johnson & Wales, Norfolk. Both experiences shine through in the kitchen as pride in his craft and a passion for excellence guide his kitchen.
Aby grew up in New Hampshire, but attended high school, where her family still resides in southwest, Hillsville, Virginia. The University of Mary Washington (or Mary Washington College is what I’ll always call it) brought her to Fredericksburg in 1995.
They married in October 2003 and purchased Bistro Bethem in May 2004. Since then, the combination of a creative, hardworking chef and a level-headed business woman has proven to be the perfect blend for success. With their three growing boys, the restaurants are a truly family-run enterprise.
The dream of building a restaurant from the ground up has been the project of Vivify for over 2 years. We wanted a place to serve a quality product for an affordable price. We want a place our five year old can call awesome, where our 16 year old can ‘hang’ with his friends after football, and where our 18 month old can receive a quality meal that fits his ‘discerning’ toddler appetite. We wanted to build a place we can hang with our family or later with our friends. To us burgers are the ultimate comfort food and we are excited to offer it to our friends and family in downtown Fredericksburg.
